Interiors by AKSL arhitekti

Designed Interior

Slovenia boasts many excellent architectural offices that have gained public and professional recognition both at home and abroad. Most of these offices express themselves primarily through architecture, and less through interior design. They understand interior design to be as minimalist as possible, simple, in soft shades, unobtrusive, calm… Perhaps so as not to overshadow the architecture? Since it is often considered necessary to photograph spaces before they are furnished, let alone occupied, less interference from interior design should only benefit architecture. However, it is people who give life and content to the shell. Interior design complements architecture, it can reflect its basic idea or generate an understanding of the space to the outside world. The interior can be rich in shapes, colours, materials, and textures, carrying a sense of time, imaginative solutions, stories. This path is slower and more difficult, requiring a great deal of thought, a good feel for the relationship between shell and content, and a broad knowledge of areas related to the furnishing of spaces.

Špela Leskovic and Aleš Košak, who founded the AKSL arhitekti studio in 2000 while still students, understood interior design literally even then, believing that interiors should be designed. They still adhere to this principle, and all their projects are both recognisable yet different – full, colourful, rich, innovative. They are masters at creating environments that evoke special experiences in users, whether in restaurants, hotels, business premises or private interiors. Over more than two decades, AKSL arhitekti has become a dynamic architectural and design team operating at the intersection of architecture and interior design. Špela and Aleš provide a comprehensive approach to projects, as they have a large interdisciplinary team that creates meaningful and complete design solutions.

The company has offices in Vienna and Ljubljana, and its founders live in Vienna. Over the past decade, the studio has become internationally recognised, with projects implemented in numerous European countries leaving a lasting impact. It has become an important brand in its own right, providing a comprehensive experience that enables effective management and draws on the in-depth knowledge of experts from various fields. This allows each project to be based on a diverse and unique approach to interior design, resulting in completely new yet characteristic “AKSL” solutions. The studio has also expanded its reach by collaborating with other renowned international architectural firms, and in these joint projects, AKSL arhitekti takes on the interior design.
